DOL Workforce Investment Agency Partners with PSS Summer Boot Camp Program

The CNMI Department of Labor (DOL) Workforce Investment Agency (WIA), as the administering agency of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth Programs, has announced its partnership with the Public School System (PSS) Career Technical Education Program Summer Enrichment College and Career Pathway initiative.

This summer, high school students throughout the CNMI will have the opportunity to engage in an articulated culmination of education, training, and support services in in-demand sectors namely:  Construction, Nursing, Education, and Entrepreneurship.  The program will run for five (5) weeks beginning on June 28, 2021, and ending on July 30, 2021. At the completion of the program, students will earn an industry-recognized certificate paving a career pathway into the workforce or post-secondary education.

Secretary of Labor Vicky Benavente fully supports cross-agency partnerships to reduce the skills gap and meet the growing demands of the workforce.

“This partnership aligns with one of the requirements of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) initiative to develop strategies that support career pathways as a workforce investment activity for individuals with barriers to employment, including youths. Furthermore, the programs are industry focused and offer opportunities for sector partnerships with key stakeholders within those industry clusters. We are excited and anticipate forging greater partnerships witl1PSS and other stakeholders,” Secretary Benavente said.

Commissioner of Education, Dr. Alfred B. Ada added that PSS is excited to partner with DOL on this important initiative.

“PSS-Career Technical Education program in partnership with the Department of Labor (DOL) has been a goal, and we are pleased it is finally coming to fruition. This is an accomplishment for the good of our community. This is the first of many collaborations and partnering between the Department of Labor and other agencies towards creating more opportunities for our students. This is an exciting time to re-imagine and redirect education services for our community.”
